On this episode of Phillip Barcio's Apocalypse Mixtape, Phillip welcomes artist, writer and curator Riva Lehrer. Riva's work focuses on the socially challenged body. She is best known for representations of people whose physical embodiment, sexuality, or gender identity have long been stigmatized. Her work has been exhibited in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, Yale University, the United Nations, and the National Museum of Women in the Arts, among other institutions. Her awards include the 3Arts MacDowell Fellowship for writing; the Carnegie Mellon Fellowship; the Prairie Fellowship, the Critical Fierceness Grant, the Wynn Newhouse Award for Excellence, and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Riva's memoir, Golem Girl, will be published by an imprint of Penguin/Random House in October 2020. She is on faculty at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, teaches at Northwestern University and is represented by Regal Hoffman & Associates literary agency, NYC.
